The Grammar of Spelling 5
Details
A classical approach to the subject of spelling based on two different types of spelling rules that correspond respectively to the first two stages of the trivium, this 5th grade speller continues to instruct students in the five spelling rules: doubling final consonants, dropping the final e, i before e except after c, changing a final y to an i, and -ness vs. -ly. The spelling lessons are also integrated with other subjects and the student is encouraged to use cursive.
This simple, yet effective approach contains an overview of the spelling program as a whole and includes weekly word lists and no-nonsense reproducible worksheets to be used in homeschool or the classroom. There are many spelling programs on the market, but Mr. Whitling, a third grade classical teacher at Logos School, has taken the most commonly used rules and put them in a format conducive for chanting and integration with other disciplines.
