God's Word is the basis of all academic disciplines, including Psychology, the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors. This course examines the history, practice, and cutting edge research in psychology, providing a foundation for students in the discipline. The course will trace the history of psychology through Plato, Aristotle, Freud, William James, Jung, Skinner, and others. It introduces students to personality, classic psychological theory, the biological basis of behavior, emotions and motivation, memory, cognition, self-concept, child and adult development, sensation and perception, social psychology, individual and family counseling, psychology and cognitive science of religion, abnormal psychology, and individual and group therapy. The course also covers neural anatomy, contemporary neuroscience and cognitive science, artificial intelligence and artificial life, embodied mind, animal cognition, evolutionary psychology, and a thorough, biblical foundation for the scientific study of the human mind. This course is eligible for dual enrollment credit for junior and senior students, and is an AP course approved by the College Board. Homework will average approximately 3 - 4 hours per week.
