Literary Analysis Through Short Stories - Summer B - Live Online Course
Details
Summer B (July 14, 2025 to August 22, 2025)
Literary Analysis Through Short Stories guides students through the art of literature as a formal discipline by delighting in the miniature worlds of short stories. This class will start with an understanding of the Lord as the original and greatest storyteller who uses story to reveal himself to his people. Students will learn to recognize, analyze, and assess the techniques authors use to match form with content in works of short fiction. The class will explore the various ways authors employ literary elements, evaluating their effectiveness and impact, through course discussions, essay work, and presentations. Using the efficient and delightful medium of the short story, students will read a variety of genres to familiarize themselves with the conventions of different styles and literary movements. They will then get the opportunity to apply what they've learned to a formal analysis of a longer piece of fiction in an independent project that culminates in an in-class presentation. In all things, students will evaluate what they've learned through a Christian worldview that looks to the Lord as the ultimate Creator and standard for what is good, true, and beautiful.
