Stepping Stones: Grammar Basics - Live Online Course
Details
Do you have a younger student eager to begin Live classes? Would you like to test the waters of online classes before jumping into a full course in 3rd grade? Are you looking for a little help in staying on track for 2nd grade? VSA has just the thing!
Our new “Stepping Stones” course is carefully planned to give the 2nd grade student a taste of a live class, but with a slow and gentle start. The course is designed to have mom (or dad!) sitting alongside their child, helping to navigate the classroom setting and develop the skills needed to participate in an online classroom. Parents will be actively involved in class activities at the start of the year, and then will gradually assist less as the weeks pass. By the end of the second quarter (perhaps earlier), students will be ready to move forward on their own without mom or dad, thus offering that “stepping stone” to independent full courses in 3rd grade. Classes will meet for 75 minutes, twice per week, but each class session will be divided into two parts with a short break in between. While our Stepping Stones: Grammar Basics course will not be graded and will not have graded assignments to submit, there will be a Course Assignment Sheet listing the chapters we will cover in class and optional homework assignments. Throughout the year students will have opportunities to take grammar tests and submit writing assignments.
Students will learn tools that enable them to tackle text complexity and rigor in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students will practice jingles on a regular basis to learn definitions for the parts of speech. Using the Question and Answer Flow, students will complete weekly practice sentences, making sure that they master the concepts and parts of speech. With a solid grammar foundation, students will learn basic sentence structure while writing sentences and short paragraphs that exhibit clear, precise communication. Fix It! Grammar will allow students to continue to apply their grammar knowledge and improve their editing skills while copying daily passages that cumulatively tell a story. The purpose of training in grammar and writing is to honor God with our words. God is the Creator who spoke the first words into existence with purpose and clarity. In Grammar Basics students will learn how to communicate clearly with purpose and understanding.
