FILM AND WORLDVIEW IS A YEAR-LONG COURSE FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 9-12.
We often think of film as simply entertainment. Yet, this medium can be a powerful tool for conveying ideas and new perspectives. Beneath the surface, film routinely has a hidden message, and this course aims to help students decipher and apply this meaning, both when watching and making films. Students will learn to examine film in light of a Christian worldview by looking at storytelling, worldview and spirituality in the movies. Students will be viewing movies in and out of class and participating in engaging discussions. Finally, students will see how the story of redemption is one that is central to many of the movies we view, just as it is central to the story of the Gospel. This course is available in Live Online format.
The Veritas Approach to Electives
Electives give students the opportunity to pursue particular interests. Core curricula such as Latin, Logic, Rhetoric, Math, and Science are essential to every student. Electives then allow students to pursue areas that interest them.
Veritas is excited to offer a growing collection of electives. We expect to add to the list often. Good subject matter that will complement the students’ overall education, good curricula along with a good plan, enough students interested in the topic, and a great teacher are all that’s needed to consider an elective.
And some electives can be taken for dual credit in 11th or 12th grade, giving students some of the hours they’ll need for a college degree.
